Appearing both on stage and screen, Ms. DeBose has a very active career. Her stage presence includes “Hamilton,” “Bring It On,” “Motown,” and more, both on and off-Broadway. She’s performed in a few television series, such as “Blue Bloods,” and “Schmigadoon,” but is most known for her film work in titles “The Prom,” and “West Side Story,” for which she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress mere days ago. This achievement made history as Ms. DeBose is the first openly queer woman of color to receive the award.

Ms. DeBose has also received a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, Screen Actors Guild Award, Tony nomination and more. She also applies her talent and creativity as an activist for LGBTQ+ rights, encouraging young artists to pursue their passion and stand up for who they are. Her example and support for artists of all backgrounds reminds us why we do what we do.

“You see an openly queer woman of color, an Afro-Latina, who found her strength in life through art. And that is, I think, what we’re here to celebrate.” – Ariana DeBose, 94th Annual Academy Awards, 2022
