Main Character Descriptions

Pericles- While Pericles is a brave and noble fighter, willing to risk life for love, the monarch is not only fallible but pretty average. The audience should see itself in this particular leader- someone who knows the strife and struggle of every day ups and downs combined with atrocities that no person should suffer more than once. Yet- even through mental and emotional strife, Pericles continues on.

Gower– The narrator of our tale.

Helicanus-  A wise councilor of Pericles

Simonides- A beloved and fun ruler and father of Thaisa.

Cleon- A friend of Pericles and weak ruler that is governed by his wife.

Dionyza -Cleon’s wife. Jealous of Marina’s greatness enough to have her assassinated.

Thaisa- A Beautiful woman and daughter of Simonides. She falls in love with Pericles and starts a family with him.

Marina- Duaghter of Thasia and Pericles. She is captured and sold to a brothel where she converts would-be buyers and uses her wits to stave off certain danger. Marina is considered beautiful and accomplished. A teacher and pathologically chaste.

Submission Requirements

Please prepare two 60-second classical monologues that show your range of character work.

  • EFT prides itself on making Shakespeare fun for all ages- with an emphasis on children and families. Mere exposure to the text isn’t enough- we want children to engage with it and interact with the performance. In casting this production and all of our performances want to know that you can play someone zany and funny just as much as we want to know that you can command the text and offer honest portrayals of characters in challenging situations.

Please send your video submissions, resume, and headshot to Admin@Evergreenfamilytheatre.org. You may submit a link to your Youtube channel, Vimeo, or attach files to the email. If attaching files, please label the files “Your Last Name_Pericles.” At this time, we will not be holding in person auditions. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us. All submissions must be received by no later than April 12th at 11:59pm.
